Pace of Play Tips

  • From club selection to pre-shot routine to execution, strive to hit your shot in 20 seconds when it is your turn to play.
  • Keep your pre-shot routine short.
  • Plan your shot before you get to your ball.
  • It is acceptable for players to “hit when ready” anytime on the course, as long as it is safe to do so.
  • Take no more than one practice swing.
  • Always carry an extra ball with you.
  • Always carry several clubs if you are not beside your cart.
  • Carry club used to hit previous shot to your next shot, then put the club in the bag and pull out the club you’ll be using for your next shot.
  • As cart driver, drop your partner off at their ball, proceed to your ball if it is safe to do so.
  • If your group has players playing from multiple tee boxes, all members of the group should get their clubs at the first tee box played. Then walk/ride (depending on distance) to the next tee box.
  • Before arriving at your first tee box, have balls, divot repair tool, and ball marker on your person. Have GPS (if using) set up and ready to go.
  • If possible, have players playing from the same tees ride in the same cart.
  • Shorter distance hitters should tee off first followed by longer distance hitters.
  • After everyone has teed off, go to the general vicinity of your ball, even if others may be behind you, as long as they are not hitting in your direction.
  • Take putter with you if you are chipping near the green.
  • Putt out unless you are in someone’s line.
  • Record scores at tee box, not green.
  • If you fall behind, make an extra effort to catch up.
  • If you can’t see the group in front of you, you are behind and need to catch up.
  • If you get to a par 5 and the group in front of you is playing their approach shots to the green or are farther away, you are behind and need to catch up.
  • If you get to a par 4 and the group in front of you is on the green or they are not on the hole at all, you are behind and need to catch up.
  • If you get to a par 3 and the group in front of you has left the hole, you are behind and need to catch up.
